Remembering to be thankful together is one of the cornerstones of community. A Thanksgiving Tree is a creative way to express and display personal and communal thanks. The leader of our Decorating Team created this tree for Thanksgiving in 2016. Just as with the Give Thanks bulletin board, construction paper “leaves” were given to the congregation with twine loops for hanging.

The tree itself was constructed of sticks of varying lengths bundled together in a container. Depending on the number of sticks and branches comprising the tree, the container may need to be weighted down with rocks or sand. Burlap fabric was wrapped around the container to finish the rustic look.

My children had fun writing their “thanks” on the leaves and this activity could be a great option for doing at home as a family for Thanksgiving.
